Experience a sample lecture by Professor Lauren Jerke:

"Taanishi (hello) my name is Lauren Jerke, and I am an Assistant Professor in Indigenous Education and Curriculum Instruction, specializing in Drama Education. I teach Indigenous Education and Drama Education courses in the Teacher Education Program. I am Métis on my mom’s side and Polish-German on my dad’s side. I grew up on the outskirts of Lethbridge, Alberta, on the traditional lands of the Blackfoot People. I completed my undergraduate degree in Drama (Performance) at the University of Lethbridge and my M.A. and Ph.D. in Applied Theatre here at UVic. My work as a theatre artist, educator, and researcher is grounded in theatre-based, community-centered methods, with storytelling and lived experiences at its core. I believe drama and story is a powerful teaching tool, and I enjoy using it thoughtfully to help us better understand ourselves and the world around us. I’ve had the opportunity to facilitate drama in a variety of communities, including with elementary, middle, and high school-aged children and youth, in psychiatric hospitals, elder care homes, medical and law schools, judicial education, urban Indigenous populations, and Métis and First Nations communities. When I’m not working, you can find me spending time with my family and enjoying the Land and Water—I love hiking, mountain biking, surfing, and wandering in nature.”

We'll close out the event with a question-and-answer session, so bring your questions!

March 12, 6:00PM

Events are scheduled in Pacific Time.
